Our Approach to the Canada Post Strike

Our Approach to the Canada Post Strike

Canada Post has announced that its unions will begin a strike on November 15, 2024. Although they plan to keep working, there will likely be delays in mail service. For the latest strike updates from Canada Post, you can visit their site here.

What This Means for Us (and Your Seeds)

Free Shipping Orders

Most of our seeds are shipped for free within Canada (up to 500 grams) via Canada Post’s lettermail service. Due to its affordability, we plan to continue using lettermail for free shipping, though delivery times may be delayed.

If you’re concerned about delivery speed, please consider selecting a paid shipping option for faster service.

Free Local Pick-Up

For customers in the Calgary, Alberta area, we’re offering a free local pick-up option (Sundance, S.E. Calgary) during the strike. Just add a note at checkout indicating you'd like to pick up your order, and we’ll email you when it’s ready.

Monthly Seed Subscriptions

Our monthly seed subscriptions will still be sent out via Canada Post Lettermail, but we’ll be shipping closer to the 1st of each month to account for potential delays.

If Canada Post halts operations entirely, we will hold subscriptions until the mail service resumes.

All of our subscription recipients received a note in their November shipment letting them know that this may be a possibility.

Paid Shipping Options

For those opting for paid shipping, we’ll use an alternate carrier whenever possible to ensure faster delivery. If your address is a PO Box, we’ll need to stick with Canada Post, as most couriers don’t deliver to PO Boxes.

What if There’s a Full Strike and Service Stops?

If Canada Post completely stops operations, we will hold all “free shipping” orders and monthly subscriptions until service resumes. While we wait, we will fill orders and have them ready to go!

Paid shipping orders will continue to be sent through other carriers if available. If alternative carriers are not available for your paid shipping order, we’ll notify you by email.

How Long Will the Strike Last?

It’s hard to say, but historically, Canada Post strikes have lasted between 17 and 45 days. We’re hopeful that this one will be resolved before the main indoor and outdoor growing seasons begin.
